The University of the West Indies has conducted two training workshops to build capacity for both management and academic staff at their University at the Cave Hill and the St. Augustine Campus. The workshop at the Cave Hill Campus was executed on June 4, 2015 in the First Caribbean Suite A of the Solution Centre while at the St. Augustine Campus the workshop was conducted on June 9, 2015 in Lecture Room 2 of the Institute of Critical Thinking.

The objective of the One-Day workshops was to teach and disseminate training material in various pedagogical forms to academic and management staff with the intention of upgrading their capacity to provide new courses to students and professionals in areas relating to intellectual property (IP), innovation, ideas evaluation, entrepreneurship, mobilizing stakeholders for sustainability and aspects of patenting in the renewable energy discipline.

Participants were all welcomed to the training sessions and they were informed of the importance of such training to the development of the University and the regions, in particular Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and the other Caribbean territories (e.g Jamaica).

Information on the CAP4INNO project and its deliverables were discusses and participants were guided to the website for further details on project activities and actions to-date.

The programme continued and was chaired by Ms. Natasha Corbin who introduced the various speakers and facilitated the group demonstration exercises. The presenters at the workshops were as follows: Dr. Thomas Rogers, Lecturer in Renewable Energy at U.W.I Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Graham King, Lecturer in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering from the U.W.I St. Augustine Campus, Dr. Beverly Pereira, University Legal Advisor, Mona Campus, Ms. Natasha Corbin, Manager of CAP4INNO at U.W.I Cave Hill Campus, Ms. Ayanna Young-Marshall, Lecturer in International Business at the U.W.I Cave Hill Campus and Mr. Lallo Ramlal, IP Specialist of Trinidad and Tobago Intellectual Property Office.

Eighteen persons participated in the workshop held the Cave Hill Campus and twelve at the St. Augustine Campus. There were all staff members from both academic and management positions at the University of the West Indies.  Most of the participants indicated that the workshop addressed topics that are relevant and vital for the sustainability of the University. They all claimed that the presentations were thorough and met their expectations.
