CAP4INNO was kicked off at the University of Alicante (UA) on 18th and 19th November 2013 together with other 5 EDULINK projects in the areas of sustainable energy and agriculture.
The kick-off event, gathered some 50 delegates from Africa, Caribbean and the Pacific, providing networking opportunities between the different EDULINK projects as well as a space to discuss the specific project implementation strategies and goals.
For this purpose, a plenary session was held in which all 6 projects’ partners were informed the common rules of the EDULINK programme and discussed key issues, such as exploitation, dissemination and quality.
Thereafter, individual project meetings were held with a view to deepening the understanding and planning the distinct activities, outputs and results expected. The delegates from the partner institutions (Chalmers University of Technology, University of Technology, Jamaica, Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, The University of the West Indies, Jamaica Intellectual Property Office and Oficina Nacional de la Propiedad Industrial, Dominican Republic) worked together during 1.5 days in developing the workplan and implementation plan of the first project semester. The main first activities consist of a detailed needs-analysis among the different stakeholder groups, as well as the development of a training plan to upgrade skills of partner HEI staff.
Following the kick-off meeting in Alicante, the CAP4INNO group carried out a study-visit at the Chalmers University in Sweden on 20th and 21st November 2013 to benchmark good practice in S&T study programmes, learning contents and competences delivered to students in the field of innovation, IP (and in relation to renewably energy). The programme for the study visit included several presentations from experts in the field of entrepreneurship, innovation and renewable energy. The study visit confirmed the need for Caribbean partners, to work in close collaboration with the business sector, government and the community for the commercialization of research results and the creation of jobs.
In line with this, the CAP4INNO project aims to build capacities for transfer and exploitation of innovative solutions and modern technologies for enhanced energy access and efficiency in the Caribbean, in line with socio-economic regional development priorities.
